The Government has said it is relaxing the use of Mobile phones in UK hospitals. Patients and visitors want it, and technical experts have said there is no reason why they should be banned. So the only remaining concerns are over patient's right to quiet in the ward, any possible interference with medical equipment, such as baby care, and possibly privacy issues particularly with camera phones.
Being able to keep in touch with relatives while in hospital using your mobile however, could make your stay less stressful it has been claimed. Medical groups also believe it will help to improve communication between heathcare workers too.
So it looks like it will be up to individual Trusts how they implement the relaxation of rules and what areas will or won't allow phones.
